The Green Door

While on my art retreat in Spetses, Greece, I frequently walked past a home with this beautiful green door. It's knobs were weathered and it's paint was flaking off, but it was illuminated by its character.

Doors are symbolic of many things, but for me, this door symbolizes transformation, breakthroughs, and the choice to pursue greater things. Butterflies also symbolize transformation.

Interestingly enough, this painting was a bit of a breakthrough moment for me, one which I was actively seeking out during my art retreat. Being surrounded by my art mentors and friends for two weeks, I was looking for guidance and practice in loosening up my painting style. With the completion of five paintings during the trip, I progressed a bit more toward my goal with each one. The last of those paintings, The Green Door, was created totally enjoyably without struggles, and it was a huge step forward toward a new style of which I'd work to implement more.
